The Strain: Now With More Sea Monkeys!

We may have missed last week, so we're gonna pay extra special attention to the beginning part, and make it up as we go along. The important thing to remember is that they are all Ken Dolls; you can only tell the humans by their non-vagina-necks and their horrendous hairpieces. Exhibit A:

Bookie Wook watches BB and Social

I got nothin'.............

Lazy Sunday Plus The Killing

That may have sounded confusing, my bad. This is part two of the Sunday social plus we're gonna yak The Killing. I feel bad, I always focus on Joel Kinnaman, but Mireille Enos is an amazing actress, so understated but powerful. So, a pic of the lovely ginge:

Was Big Brother On? Did We Miss It?

Sorry Reno! I know,  you can't take us ANYwhere!

On a completely other note, we just found out about Lauren Bacall and I think everyone is quite worried about deaths coming in threes. Be well all y'all. Ms Bacall had a lovely and long career and life, and one of the most recognizable voices out there.  Rest in peace, talented lady.

Book Club Mini-Meet: The Unlikely Pilgrimage Of Harold Fry

I believe there were only 4 of us that read this book by Rachel Joyce; if anyone else has, feel free to jump in at any time!

August 28th Book Club SELECTION: Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

By a slim margin, the choice this month on August 29th is The Prisoner of Azkaban, by J.K. Rowling. Thanks for the suggestion, AJ! This has the benefit of also being followed by movie, so woo hoo!

I mentioned we would be doing smaller book club meets for two other books; The Devil in The White City by Eric Larson and The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce, if you are interested in either of those, lemme know by email and we will arrange a mutually satisfying time. I'm thinking Tuesdays work best, and we'll see if we can try some different times.

If you ever want a separate post to talk about a book or TV show, go ahead and post in a thread or email, the list of people who can set up posts is at the bottom of every page, any one of those can do it.

Big Brother

May I do the honors?  It's Biiiiiiiiig Brother!

August 29th Book Club Meet: VOTING

So excited, you guys! We have several suggestions this month, so lots to pick from. I am going to throw a couple of my own too, and suggest something new after. Wait for it! Choose as many as you like, put your selections in comments. Voting runs until Wednesday night, I will put up the choices after Big Brother.

Our choices, this week, should you choose to accept, by number or name:

1)   The Prisoner of Azkaban  by J.K. Rowling

2)   The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon

3)   The Mysteries of Pittsburgh by Michael Chabon

4)   Molly's Game by Molly Bloom

5)   Tempest Tossed  by Robertson Davies

6)   Headhunters on My Doorstep by J Maarten Troost

7)   All Fall Down  by Jennifer Weiner

8)   Confessions of a Wild Child by Jackie Collins

9)  *The Secret History by Donna Tartt

10)  Hidden by Catherine McKenzie

11)  Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

12)  Lucky Us  by Amy Bloom

13)  Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

14) Bitten by Kelly Armstrong

15) Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad

16) The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown and Daniel James Brown

So vote! Vote for as many as you like, by number or by name. Open until Wednesday night

*Since we had already done The Goldfinch, I went with the other book you mentioned you liked of hers, The Secret History, Baroness. Hope that's okay!

Another note: we're going to do The Devil in The White City and The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry separately, as those books have come up quite a few times and have been read by several people. It won't be on the same schedule as the usual monthly meets, I will send an email to notify in advance of when those will be held. If you are one of the people that want to be in on those discussions, you can go ahead and send me an email with a couple of dates that would work for you, if you like.
