Bookie Club Meet: The Martian by Andy Weir

Have I mentioned that were doing this book yet? Maybe once or twice? Veronica said it was fantastic, so I gave it to family members that ALSO loved it, and then a couple of other Bookies read it and then I did, and it's just.so.dang.good SO! Here we are:

Let's discuss!

Bookworm Wednesday: Grace Guuuurrll Jones Edition

As I posted previously, Grace Jones wrote a book!! I love NZ and post from them whenever possible, so here, basically, is their review of her music. Plus links to spoilers in her book.

I've loved Grace Jones since Boomerang, which is I know isn't considered her most important work, exactly, but the subversive stuff was mostly before my time. Check with your Fairy of All Media should you wanna read along!

Always with the mouth, this one

In other book news! Paper books are making a comeback and I bet it has to do with nobody caring what kinda *cough 50 Shades cough* smut they're reading. Loud and proud ladies and gents!

Bookie Club Meet Wednesday Night for The Martian!

And! And yesterday they found water on Mars! Coincidence?? Pfft. Oh and Ridley Scott (you know, the Michael Bay-reminiscent director who blows shite up for a living) totes knew all about that, like two months ago. He just didn't find out in time to be able to answer the question: what would Matt Damon do? Trailer!

I guess this is exciting because now they think life might be sustainable on Mars; I just see it ramping up the timeline for shooting boybanders into even deeper space(s). Call me when Jupiter is on the hook! I like big moons and I cannot lie.

BWW Empire S1:E1 Pilot

So we're finally starting black Dynasty plus music so we can watch with Orvi!

Empire! And Jon Bernthal

We're starting Empire today at NapTime (1:30 - 1:45 ish); I've been wanting to for a while and once Rolling Stone called Taraji P. Henson the Tyrion Lannister...could.not.resist. See you then for some ill-advised pompadours of destiny!

Tyrion has wicket eyes!
In the meanwhile, I just wanna mention an actor that I dig the mostest. Allow me to fangirl re: Jon Bernthal.

BWW Drag Race S4:E5 Snatch Game!

All right all right all right huntys! My very favourite part of the Drag Racing: Snatch Game is tonight, woo hoo!!

We all know Shazza ain't got no sense of haha, so let's see what It's Willem, It's On My Headshot Right Back There can do!

Rolling around 7:45!

Dinner and a Movie: Chinquapin Parish Jambalaya

Alternate name: ANNELLE'S Jambalaya!

In honor of Steel Magnolias I am posting my jambalaya recipe.  I first had this in Ocean City, Maryland (Uh, not so southern, but we were on vacay and the BIL made it).  I fell in love with it and bugged the SIL until I got the recipe out of her.  I eyeball a lot, which is what they did, so bear with me!

A box of Zatarain's Jambalaya Mix Family Size
3-4 Stalks of celery, chopped
1 large green bell pepper, chopped
1 large yellow onion, chopped
32 Oz. Chicken broth ( less if you like it thicker)
2-3 lbs. split chicken breasts, cooked and shredded (Eyeball it)*
1 sausage, sliced (whatever you like!)  I use beef, but andouille is traditional an most popular.
Shrimp, I use one bag of frozen, you may use fresh, (Eyeball it)*
Tony Chachere's Cajun Seasoning (or similar)
1 can diced tomatoes
Crusty French Bread for sopping (Optional)

*Seriously, you'll know how much of the meats to throw in at the end by looking at it.  I usually have extra chicken left over to make chicken salad.

Start by buying a box of Zatarain's Jambalaya.  See, easy already! (I buy the Family size one usually)

I buy a split chicken breast of about 2 or three pounds, which I boil, then shred.  Set aside.

Slice your sausage!

Next, dice a few stalks of celery, a green bell pepper, and  a yellow onion and saute' till soft in a large pot.

Now, start to KINDA follow the Zatarain's directions.  EXCEPT, instead of water use chicken broth the big 32 oz. one. Edit:  you may want to start with less as we like it real thinned, you may not!  Add your Zatarain's rice to the celery, pepper, onion with your chicken broth. Then throw in a can of diced tomatoes!  DO IT!  Zatarain's don't care!  I always throw in a good amount of Tony Chachere's Cajun spice to KICK IT UP A NOTCH!
Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 25 minutes.

At the last minute, throw in your cooked shredded chicken, your sausage, and your shrimp.

Now, traditionally most Jambalaya is thick, a rice consistency.  But we like ours soupy or stew like, so I add more chicken stock or water to thin it down.  It's totally up to how you like it!

Buy a loaf of crusty french bread and SOP that mofo UP!
