Madonna Sticks by Sean Penn

Apparently Sean Penn filed a defamation lawsuit against the producer of Empire, Lee Daniels for saying Terrence Howard, “ain’t done nothing different than Marlon Brando or Sean Penn,” that since he is black, “he’s some fucking demon. That’s a sign of the time, of race, of where we are right now in America.”  Well Madonna has now entered this mess by sending a statement in with Penn's amendment he filed this week.  Madonna calls him "caring and compassionate" and she has this to say about their alleged dust-ups:

“I am aware of the allegations that have surfaced over the years accusing Sean of incidents of physical assault and abuse against me,” she wrote. “Specifically, I am aware of the allegations concerning an alleged incident that occurred in June 1987, whereby (according to tabloid reports) Sean allegedly struck me with ‘a baseball bat’. I know the allegations in those and other reports to be completely outrageous, malicious and false.
“I am also aware of allegations concerning an incident that occurred in December 1989, which purportedly resulted in Sean’s arrest for domestic assault and battery against me. I know those allegations to be false. While we certainly had more than one heated argument during our marriage, Sean has never struck me, ‘tied me up’ or physically assaulted me, and any report to the contrary is completely outrageous, malicious, reckless and false.”
A year after Penn was charged with domestic abuse, Madonna told Rolling Stone that all the rumors and magazines articles were “extremely inaccurate, as they usually are. They made it all up. But I expect it. They’re always making shit up. I’ve completely reconciled myself to that fact.”
I'm not sure why Madonna felt like she needed to defend Penn.  I suppose the simplest answer is that he really didn't attack her during their marriage, that she really did file false charges against him.  I find that hard to believe, but only they really know.
Aside from that, where do you stand on the lawsuit?  Daniels is standing by his "right to free speech" while Penn feels defamed.

  1. I just wonder how such a specific, detailed story came to be if there was not some truth in it. And if Madonna filed a false police report, why hasn't she been sued for defamation by Sean Penn?

I think she was abused and that he still holds that power over her. She's still his victim. Fcuk, I hope I don't get sued.

Maybe they are both just game players and this has all just been a big fight for control between the two of them. I dunno.

    1. I'm solid on the old adage "where there's smoke there's fire". No way he didn't physically do something during that marriage. Yes, I agree about the specifics too: The bat, the being tied up...Jackie Collins always said what she wrote in her books was tame compared to what really went on in HW, she said if she wrote the real goings on, we would think she was making that shit up.

  2. I think that Lee Daniels isn't wrong, he just could have used better examples, like Steve McQueen or Josh Brolin, the first of which was "known" to beat women and the second who was charged.

It's true, the media and in general people are quicker to demonize male black celebrities, I think. Chris Brown?

I do NOT understand what Madonna is doing and this is EXACTLY why victims of abuse have so much trouble. She was lying then or she's lying now. I personally think Madonna is a snake, albeit a talented one, if not exactly for singing for being relevant and catchy, but false police reports are no joke.

Also not a joke is having your reputation smeared for 20 plus years if Sean Penn DIDN'T do it. Think David Justice and Wesley Snipes by extension. David Justice only now has come out against the allegations made against him by Halle Berry, swearing he didn't hit her. Didn't Wesley Snipes career COMPLETELY nosedive when rumours about him beating Halle surfaced? What if that's not true either? My automatic response is to always believe the woman, but little lie big lie? That certainly tainted David Justice's career, but nowhere near as much as Wesley Snipes.

    1. Here's the links for the David Justice Twitter rant where he addressed the abuse allegations

    2. Well Penn was also charged, although Madonna backed off a week later though I think. But still, it's out there so his character was already besmirched if you ask me.

I think people are quick to demonize Chris Brown because we saw the pictures of lovely Rhianna's smashed in face, personally.

I must say, I loved and admired Madonna in the 80's and 90's like crazy, but now I think she's just the worst kind of woman. She's just an empty shell of a human being.

That is terrible about Justice and that whole situation. These things are certainly complicated that's for sure.

    3. I think that Halle Berry is batshit crazy. She says that she never named the person, but she never denied it was him either.

    4. No, sorry, I guess Penn wasn't charged, but charges were filed. Things were different back then and one could withdraw charges of domestic abuse. You can't do that now.

    5. Yeah, I saw those tweets, yikes.

  3. Another set of recent allegations are those of sexual assault made against James Deen, the pron star. Those are very specific allegations, as Madonna's were, but by multiple people, with similar occurrences, like Bill Cosby. Do we just accept those at face value like always? I do, but I'm curious as to everyone else's take.

    1. I've not heard of these.

    2. The James Deen one is inneresting. Did the assaults take place on pron sets? Or in private?

    3. His ex-girlfriend Stoya posted about it on Twitter, then more women came forward but I haven't heard if police have filed charges

    4. With Stoya I gather it was personal, as they were dating, but the other two in that article are on pron sets

    5. I thought there would be a lot of protection for the actors on set?

Sounds like I am being a horrible skeptic, but why on Twitter? Why not report it to the police?

    6. If you read the comments on any of those articles, you can see why. A lot of people don't even think a pron star CAN be assaulted, so there's that. Stoya posted a very specific tweet about a rape, in response to repeated inquiries about Deen, I gather. I don't know if she's since gone to the police. I think she just wanted everyone to stop asking about him and she was hella tired of NOT saying something

  4. One more thing! Lee Daniels is definitely always looking to cause a sensation, that's his bread and butter, but again: I don't think he's wrong. I think defamation in the US means that you have to KNOW the information is false when you give it, and I don't think that's the case. The whole baseball bat / tied to a chair story IS accepted as fact

  5. I was interested to read that she denied it to Rolling Stone that long ago, I didn't know that. What happened to the charges? Were they dropped? Was he convicted?

    1. Oh, sorry! I'll include the linky. One sec!

    2. It's up, but it just says she withdrew the charges a week later.

    3. So making the charges, and then later dropping them pretty much guarantees that people will believe what best fits their pre-conceived notions and bias. If you think Sean Penn is an a-hole you will tend to believe.

    4. Right. Once it's out there, it's out there. It was pretty much written in stone that he did it after that.

  6. And really, THAT'S what's wrong with sites like CDaN and their blind items. Who here thinks Steven Seagal is a gun runner who beats girls to a pulp, by show of hands? And that was a blind item "reveal". So we like to feel "in the know" and it's a fun game to try and guess who did what to who with the Oscar (Jared Leto, you are DEAD to me!), but it leaves that shadow. That will be repeated as fact. It's still fun, though, as I hop off my Sanctimony Stage, but I think it's harmful

    1. And the murder ones! It's terrible!

    2. I guess you just really REALLY have to treat it as a game and not inside knowledge, as it is sold

      Delete
    3. You really do, but I think most people do though. I hope! I know I've always held those sites with a grain of salt.

    4. But still...you know? I mean. Grace Kelly, Steven Segal, all of them

    5. And then, if you're famous, you need to decide if it's worth fighting the rumours and giving them more press, or suck it up and hope that they mainly get forgotten

    6. So hang on, you're telling me Matt Damon isn't the father of Ben Affleck's son? Whoa, mind blown.

    3. Yeah, sames, because I don't think he meets the criteria for defamation

      Delete
    4. Right. He just said what pretty much everyone else in the free world thought.
